Friday, July 20th, 2007
Earlier this morning HPANA attended Scholastic’s unveiling of the first U.S. signed copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in New York City. In attendance were Arthur Levine, artist Mary GrandPré, past winners of Scholastic’s Harry Potter essay contests and the Knight Bus.
The Knight Bus transported copies of the previous books as well as Arthur Levine holding a copy of Deathly Hallows which was placed in Scholastic’s Pensieve, to be located in their vault for future fans of the series to view.
Scholastic’s Potter Place will be open to the public from 5 pm - 11 pm and fans can line up to board the Knight Bus and create a 20-second video expressing their throughts about the Harry Potter books from 10 am - 6 pm.
Also, for those who will not be lining up to receive their copy of Deathly Hallows you will have a chance to watch a 5 minute clip of J.K. Rowling reading from the book as well as interviews with fans from London later tonight on Scholastic’s web site starting at 6:50 PM (EDT).
Don’t forget that you can also check out Bloomsbury’s web site to view a live webstream from the Natural History Museum in London at the precise moment it is published - 12:01 am (BST) on Saturday 21st July 2007.
David Saylor, Vice President, Creative Director, Scholastic described the art: “Set during a highly dramatic sunset, Harry, Hermione, and Ron–clothes in tatters–cling atop a flying dragon in this astonishing artwork created by Mary GrandPré for the deluxe edition. As mist creeps down towering hillsides to a village below, questions arise about where the trio is headed and what has led them to this spellbinding moment.”
The book will contain 816 pages compared to 784 pages in the regular edition and will cost $65; 100,000 copies are being printed.
